A Cookout on Saturday
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Join us this Saturday for food and festivities at the Chicago Avenue Community Garden. We’re having the annual all-church cookout from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (food will be served beginning at 12:00 noon). A shuttle service will run between the church and the garden from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Bring family, friends, and neighbors for this lunchtime treat of burgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers cooked out on the grill, topped with all the trimmings, and served under a large open tent. Then enjoy a variety of activities for all ages, garden tours—and more! There will even be a surprise giveaway.

This annual event, planned by Fourth Presbyterian Church staff, the Garden committee, and other volunteers, is a wonderful opportunity to visit the Chicago Avenue Community Garden and to enjoy a time of fellowship with Fourth Church members and friends and church neighbors. Don’t miss the fun!

Chicago
Lights Summer Day—It’s Underway!
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The classrooms and activity areas of Fourth Church are filled with more than 100 children this week, as the six-week Summer Day program has kicked off for 2008. These children from low-income families have opportunity to get a head start on the fall semester through their involvement in fine arts, academic classes, and field trips, all the while having a safe, nurturing place to spend their days.

Education and literacy is an important part of Chicago Lights, a community outreach organization at Fourth Presbyterian Church. Through education, these children gain essential skills that enable them to break the cycle of poverty in which they find themselves.

You can help Chicago Lights Summer Day and the other program areas of Chicago Lights change the lives of those in need. To make a gift to support these programs, give online at www.chicagolights.org, make a check payable to Chicago Lights (and send it Chicago Lights, Attn: Katy Frey, 126 E. Chestnut St., Chicago, IL 60611.2014) or contact Katy at kfrey@fourthchurch.org. Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, between now and July 31 every dollar raised through an increased or new gift to the Chicago Lights Annual Fund will result in a matching gift to the Chicago Lights education programs, up to $50,000.
