The AV/IT Specialist provides first-line support for the use of Fourth Presbyterian Church audiovisual, PC, and LAN services, primarily by church staff. Appropriate elements of this support are also offered to lay leadership, congregants, and outside groups when using church facilities. The position also participates in the maintenance and update of AV equipment, including standalone and in-room projection systems as well as the IT environment, including PCs, networking, virtualized servers, Exchange, storage, associated components, and cloud-based services.

Schedule: Sunday hours vary, typically 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Normal weekday working hours apply during the week with occasional needs for evening time. Schedule is adjusted accordingly. Flexible availability can be important.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide first-level contact and problem resolution for all staff users with hardware, software, networking, and VOIP phone and application issues; coordinate with others at Fourth Church and outside supplier personnel, escalating issues when appropriate
  • Support understanding and self-sufficiency by encouraging all users to follow guidelines for application self-help and peer support
  • Maintain appropriate records of pending and completed support requests for IT and AV needs
  • Provision new users with equipment, network, software, and credentials. Re-image and maintain used equipment for reassignment
  • Participate in training and coaching of all supported users, both staff and congregants
  • Participate in implementation and rollout efforts for new technology services offered by Fourth Presbyterian Church, including those offered to members
  • Monitor and as necessary make basic adjustments for on-site Barracuda backup and web filter, UPS units, HP switches, Endpoint, network connections, NetApp allocation
  • As needed, provide troubleshooting assistance for cloud services, such as Constant Contact and Barracuda backup
  • Provide occasional second-level support for user printing needs
  • Provide backup to IT Administrator
  • Support staff, member, and outsider presenter use of all AV equipment available for general use; support levels include telephone instruction, written documentation, and side-by-side support; this support may require on-site presence during non-standard business hours and may also require assistance in the use of member and outside presenter BYOD equipment
  • As needed, serve as operator for recording and webcasting using TriCaster and other equipment with sufficient mastery of audio, video and webcasting components; provide training and coaching for other staff members and volunteers
  • Other duties, as assigned


  • Associates degree in a related area or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in Information Technology environment
  • Working knowledge of fundamental operation of relevant software, hardware, and networking
  • Familiarity with basic AV equipment and its use, including sound, projection, and recording
  • Previous help desk experience is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, basic Windows Server software, and Exchange Server administration
  • Ability to handle and prioritize work in a multi-tasked environment, working with minimal supervision
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Comfortable working in a multicultural and faith-based environment
