Fourth Presbyterian Church seeks a Program Assistant to work with its Center for Life and Learning (CLL), a program that welcomes men and women sixty years and over who seek wellness, social opportunities, and intellectual and creative challenge. The Program Assistant will work directly with the CLL Director and Program Coordinator to assist with CLL programming and marketing on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.


Internal Marketing

  • Be familiar with the programs of Fourth Church and Chicago Lights. Actively seek program updates and develop relationships with internal staff and constituents to broaden CLL visibility within Fourth Church.
  • Send information packets to interested individuals and new church members.


  • Maintain an active presence among CLL members in assisting with general membership questions and taking registrations and payments
  • Register via ACS software all new associate members for special-topic courses, events, and free lectures
  • Send event, special-topic, and free lecture registration reminders
  • Track exercise participant waivers
  • Create all room setup requests for special-topic courses, events, and free lectures
  • Oversee the maintenance of all weekly sign-in sheets
  • Create new sign-in sheets for special-topic courses and free lectures and assign a classroom host for each one
  • Make CLL bulletin board fliers for upcoming events, classes, and other programming
  • Create classroom envelopes for new special-topic courses and maintain weekly class envelopes: cards, markers, tent cards, room boxes, etc.
  • Assist the CLL Program Coordinator with CLL staff birthday celebrations
  • Lead the monthly Birthday Card Writing Committee
  • Serve as a resource to the CLL Membership Enhancement Committee


  • Assist the Program Coordinator with the execution of monthly CLL luncheons
  • Assist with monthly excursions
  • Assist in planning the two key CLL events: the fall open house and annual June fundraiser


  • Meet with the Director regularly; attend staff and administrative meetings as required
  • Use the S.P.I.R.I.T. principles of hospitality when interacting with visitors, guests, members, and staff of Fourth Presbyterian Church and Chicago Lights
  • Other duties, as assigned or needed


  • 18 hours per week; prefer three 6-hour shifts
  • Schedule will be determined with director with availability during business hours Monday – Friday.
  • Some evening and weekend availability may be required (planned in advance)


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Prior administrative/coordination experience
  • Ability to work with older adults
  • Patience, understanding, and a sense of humor
  • Commitment to creating a sense of community among CLL members, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage frequent interruptions, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and bookkeeping skills
  • Proven initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and a Windows environment; ability to learn new software, including ACS database software
  • Ability to responsibly escort group outings
  • Previous marketing experience
  • Desire and aptitude for working within a faith-based and a multicultural, diverse environment
