The Video Specialist is responsible for producing weekly video streams of Sunday morning worship services, as well as special worship services, such as Christmas Eve. This includes overseeing all administrative and related details, such as ensuring all copyright and contractual matters are properly registered and documented, and coordinating the schedules for any staff or volunteer videographer assistants.

The Video Specialist will also produce videos of lectures and other special programs and work in collaboration with Communications team members to conceive, plan, and create video messages to support initiatives and programs of the church, from fundraising to engaging participation in activities to capturing and conveying what Fourth Church is about.

This is a part-time position, with eligibility for limited benefits.

Schedule: Twenty hours per week, including Sundays. Occasional evenings and special events also required, specifically Christmas Eve.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Direct, shoot, and edit all videos for Sunday morning worship, Christmas services, special events, and other needs as assigned
  • Manage all copyright and contractual details related to videos
  • Coordinate the work of contributing and supportive staff members and volunteers
  • Work with other Communications team members to envision and produce videos for use on social media, in emails, on the website, and for other uses, such as new member classes and fundraising
  • Attend staff meetings as required
  • Use the S.P.I.R.I.T. principles of hospitality when interacting with visitors, guests, members, and staff of Fourth Presbyterian Church and Chicago Lights
  • Other duties, as assigned or needed

Qualifications

  • Degree, training, or equivalent experience in video production
  • Reliable self-starter, able to function well in a high-responsibility, low-oversight environment; follow-through and ability to complete projects on time with excellence
  • Excellent people skills, including ability to put members, volunteers, and staff at ease
  • Collaborative team player; ability to work well with staff and coordinate the contributions and schedules of volunteers and other video contributors
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills for identifying and tracking copyright and contractual requirements, managing copyright and contractual details, and logging and filing video libraries
  • Detail-oriented, excellent communication skills, and ability to take direction
  • Creative thinker, able to conceive and create video messages that capture the essence of Fourth Church and its programs that generate interest and participation, and that integrate supportively with other messages, themes, and goals of the church

  • Technical skills including
    • Display an artistic eye for video, shooting, editing, etc.
    • Excellent eye for framing
    • Skills in color grading
    • Proficiency in key DSLR/video-camera functions, terms, and techniques
    • Familiarity with stabilization techniques
    • Ability to properly light a subject and expose a scene
    • Working knowledge of keying (green/blue screen)
    • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects
    • General understanding of audio field-recording
    • Basic motion-graphic skills
    • Ability to achieve differing styles and effects through editing (e.g. comedic, dramatic, action/energy, interview)
  • Ability to operate/learn Fourth Church’s Tricaster 455
  • Openness to doing occasional still photography
  • Comfortable working in a faith-based and diverse work environment
