If you’ve lived in Chicago for a while, you may be able to remember when other buildings hosted Poetry magazine and its eponymous foundation. But in 2011 this permanent home opened and was widely praised for its design and functionality. Architectural Record says, “In keeping with the art form it serves, the New Poetry Foundation is a respectful, restrained building that employs an economy of means and methods, just as a good poem employs economy of language.” After touring the 30,000-volume library and enjoying a poetry reading of “Chicago” poems, we’ll have a Dutch treat lunch around the corner at hip, new burger joint 25 Degrees.
