Leadership Application for
Senior High Trip to Cuba 2017

In 2017 we are beginning what we hope is a long relationship with First Presbyterian Church in Havana, Cuba. Our intention is that this is a trip that we will embark upon each year.

The dates for the 2017 trip are June 24–July 1. Since we are being so graciously housed by the church there, we are able to take three adult volunteers and seventeen youth.

There’s a bit of legwork to be done before the trip. We are asking that each volunteer who is accompanying us on this trip be present for all fundraisers and all meeting dates as well as assist in running the various fundraisers and recruit others to help.

As a group of leaders, we will read together Robert Lupton’s book Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help (And How to Reverse It). Adult volunteers will also assist in reading through youth applications for this trip as we do anticipate getting more youth who wish to go than we can take. So there is a lot of work to be done between now and June 2017, but please do not be overwhelmed by all of this, as we will do this as a team and share the load!

We will also be looking for leaders to accompany us to Montreat, North Carolina, for their youth conference from July 30 to August 5, 2017. So if you are unable to be with us in Cuba, we hope you will consider joining us at Montreat. If you are interested in being a youth leader on the Montreat trip, please let Shelley know.

If you would like to be considered to be an adult leader in Cuba, please fill out the form below and be sure to click “Submit Form” when you have completed it.

If you have questions, please email Shelley (sdonaldson@fourthchurch.org).

We will accept applications until November 15, 2016. Youth applications will be out on November 1, 2016 (which means that the month of November we will be reading youth applications).

Please know that if you are selected for this trip, your cost is covered by our fundraising.
