Today’s Scripture Reading  |  Psalm 104:24–34, 35b

O Lord, what a variety of things you have made!
In wisdom you have made them all.
The earth is full of your creatures.
Here is the ocean, vast and wide,
teeming with life of every kind,
   both large and small.
See the ships sailing along,
and Leviathan, which you made to play in the sea.

They all depend on you
to give them food as they need it.
When you supply it, they gather it.
You open your hand to feed them,
   and they are richly satisfied.
But if you turn away from them, they panic.
When you take away their breath,
they die and turn again to dust.
When you give them your breath, life is created,
and you renew the face of the earth.

May the glory of the Lord continue forever!
The Lord takes pleasure in all he has made!
The earth trembles at his glance;
the mountains smoke at his touch.
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live.
I will praise my God to my last breath!
May all my thoughts be pleasing to him,
for I rejoice in the Lord.

Let all that I am praise the Lord.
   Praise the Lord! (NLT)

Reflection
The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof!

Take a minute and look around.

Go to the window and look at the beauty you see. Can you remember as a child playing the game “I Spy”? Well, what do you see? The trees that allow us to breathe. The birds that soar through the air. The people who, in all their colors, shades, and wonder, reveal the heart and the magnificent masterpiece of God.

The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof!

Take a deep breath. Exhale.

How often we forget that breathing is a miracle and that it is not by our own might but by the power of our awesome God. We should be mindful to never take life for granted. Beauty is all around us and within us. We are paint strokes on God’s canvas, given the freedom to explore the whole earth and create art that will inspire others. How shall we shine our lights? We are to be beacons of hope, advocates of justice, and warriors for God.

The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof!

Take a minute to bless the name of the Lord.

We are created to be instruments of praise and to worship God for all God has done. Without God we are empty vessels, but with God we are given life and the opportunity to live out our purpose. God is good. We are good when we remember that God is worthy to be praised.

Prayer
The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof! We give thanks that in our spirits we find the divine and are granted vision that allows us to see creation as God sees it. When we open our mouths to describe it we, like God, can say “It is good!” Amen.
