Today's Scripture
Matthew 7:24–27
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell — and great was its fall!” (NRSV)
Reflection
Reading this passage, it makes it seem so simple. Obviously, I would build my house on the stone foundation, but life isn’t always so simple. There are some very attractive-looking sandy plots of land that are tempting to build on. Things that seem strong like stone but crumble when tested.
Life is full of storms. Times of uncertainties, challenges, and trials. Just because you are built on a strong foundation, it does not make you immune to life’s challenges. Instead, when facing these difficulties, it is a test of our foundations.
Are they grounded in your faith? Do you have a community of support who will lift you up when the winds knock you down? Do they incorporate the teachings of Christ?
Prayer
God, you are my rock. Help me as I discern to build a solid foundation of your word. Teach me to not only hear your teachings but to live them out. Give me the strength to face the storms of life with faith and resilience. Amen.
