Prayers of the People

Sunday, November 8, 2019
Offered by Victoria G. Curtiss, Associate Pastor

Eternal God, from whom all goodness flows, we give thanks for Jesus Christ, who opens for us the gate to abundant life and gives us our identity as your beloved people. By your Holy Spirit lift us high above the cares that weigh upon us. Let our spirits soar on the clouds of your mercy, that we may live in joy and hope. Teach us your perfect will, and guide us in the paths you would have us take. Speak peace to our restless minds, so that your ways become our ways and Christ’s call becomes our heart’s desire.

We lift up to you, gracious God, our nation, in the throes of governmental investigations and strained international relations. We pray for officials, including those who work in our court system, that they would make wise, compassionate decisions that have a long-term impact for the good of all. We pray for all who are running for office, that they may present their ideas and ideals clearly so that the citizenry can vote with full information. We pray for veterans and for all who are currently serving in the military. We remember them and thank you for their dedicated sacrifice of themselves. We pray for healing in them and their families, especially those who silently suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Bring peace among warring factions, that we come to the day when life is no longer taken through weapons.

We also pray, loving Lord, for persons who struggle with health issues, for those who are grieving, for people who need a friend or encouraging word, for those without stable housing or employment. Work through us as your instruments of caring, that all your children may experience themselves as welcome and loved. All this we ask in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray, Our Father . . .
