Summary

The Career Prep Facilitator is responsible for curriculum development and workshop facilitation of this project. This includes grade-level appropriate career exploration and personal development workshops for students. He/she will create objective-driven, student-focused lessons, including the use of hands-on, engaging learning techniques. The Career Prep Facilitator, in conjunction with all other staff members, will enforce a program-wide classroom management plan to ensure an organized, safe, and learning-centered environment.


Program Description

The Career Prep Project of the Chicago Lights Tutoring Program helps rising seventh through ninth-grade students explore non-traditional career fields, gain financial literacy skills, and aid in their transition to high school. Students participate in a series of classes and field trips tailored around career exploration, financial literacy, secondary education, and more. Career planning and management skills, including academic planning, decision-making related to postsecondary pathways, career readiness skills, job search skills, financial literacy, and cover letters and resumes.

The facilitator will design, write, develop, manage, and facilitate complex learning and development projects for multiple audiences. Responsibilities involve working with employees and teams to help them reach their full potential.


Schedule

This is a seasonal, temporary part-time position. The Career Prep Program is in session from June 24 through August 16, 2024. (No programming on July 4).

The schedule for this position is:
• Attendance from 8:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. daily Monday through Thursday
• Attendance from 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. on every Friday for Field Trips.
• Additionally, a mandatory Staff Meeting in June.


Primary Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Career Prep Facilitator include:

• Developing and implementing grade-level appropriate curriculum related to career research, exploration, and high school readiness.
• Providing written lesson plans to the Associate Director one week in advance of all classes
• Enforcing a program-wide classroom management plan in conjunction with other staff and management
• Communicating with the Youth Programs Manager & Program Coordinator regarding all student behavior concerns and working together with all staff to create a safe, positive, and calm environment
• Participating in and monitoring field trips
• Assisting in the development and administration of student assessments
• Attending staff meetings as required
• Escorting students to and from classes and mealtimes
• Adhere to the Tutoring and Summer Day Programs’ Communication and Conduct Policy and Attendance Policy, Communicating with parents, as needed.
• Supervise student mealtimes, as needed.

• Other duties, as assigned or needed.

• This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners. Employees are regularly required to communicate effectively via computer, via phone, and in person.
• Be able to lift 35 pounds.
• This role requires frequent sitting.
