Summary
Fourth Presbyterian Church is a progressive and inclusive Presbyterian Church USA located on Chicago’s vibrant Michigan Avenue. Programs offer services to those who seek faith and guidance or are active in one of our many community programs or participate in one of our associated mission programs.
Position
The Facility Associate is responsible for maintaining church facilities in a clean and orderly manner to be ready for church activities and events. The Facility Associate is also responsible for the set-up and break-down of rooms for church events and special activities within the church facilities. This role ensures that the building and its infrastructure are clean, safe, and functional for all users. The Facilities Associate will also assist with other maintenance needs as they arise.
Schedule
This is a full-time hourly position (40-hour work week). The work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday. Flexible schedule hours which will require working Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Job Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Sweep, mop, and/or scrub and wax floors according to schedule or as necessary; dust furniture and shelving; wash walls and windows, and vacuum carpets as scheduled or as needed.
• Clean all restrooms and maintain an adequate supply of soap, toilet articles, towels, and other supplies in proper containers; empty wastebaskets, clean erasers, and chalkboards; collect and remove refuse from buildings.
• Clean church property – both inside and out. Replace lighting bulbs and tubes. Wash and dry dishes as needed or as requested.
• Keep accurate maintenance logs and records of repairs.
• Report on facility conditions and recommend improvements or upgrades.
• Set up assembly and classroom areas for regular and special activities; clean adequately; move furniture and set up tables, chairs, and other equipment for banquets, special meetings, and similar occasions in accordance with the Room Set-Up form. Work with the Events Coordinator as needed.
• Break down the room immediately at the conclusion of the event. However, do not place pressure on the coordinator or event participants to immediately leave the room. Return the room to the normal set-up or prepare for the next event.
• Prepare facilities for special use as requested by supervisors and assist when facilities and arrangements are needed for weddings and funerals.
• Make requests to the Facilities Manager and Assistant Facilities Manager for cleaning and maintenance supplies and other equipment as needed.
• Make minor non-technical repairs to buildings and equipment. Inform the Facilities Manager and Assistant Facilities Manager about problems.
• Prepare baptistery for use as directed and clean following use.
• Open and close the building daily as scheduled.
• Water lawn and mow grass according to schedule; trim shrubbery, edge and blow walks, and curbs, weed flower beds as needed; maintain church entrances, sidewalks, and parking areas in a clean and orderly manner.
• Load and unload supplies, materials, textbooks, equipment, and furniture from delivery trucks as needed.
• Check with the Facilities Manager and Assistant Facilities Manager on a regular basis for special assignments.
• On snow days, report to work one hour early. Shovel snow and salt walkways.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
• High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one year of related work experience
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data entry software.
• Familiar with email platforms (Outlook, Gmail) and able to navigate the internet for information retrieval.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning skills, light maintenance, and logistics (event set up and tear down)
• Previous experience building engineer/repairs and maintenance desired
• Self-starter with demonstrated experience in completing projects from start to finish independently. Ability to collaborate with colleagues on daily projects
• Good communication skills for coordinating with staff and external contractors.
• Wear complete uniform, including radio and keys when on duty
• Report to work in a timely fashion and execute duties in a prompt, timely fashion
• Exhibit respectful behavior towards supervisors, colleagues, team members, and guests of the church. Respect all church rules, policies, and regulations
• Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, Sundays required, and occasional overtime during busy seasons. Availability on some holidays is required, such as Christmas Eve
• Comfort working in a multicultural, faith-based environment

Compensation
This hourly pay ranges from $18.74 to $21.00 (depending on experience).
