Summary

The Receptionist's duties primarily consist of managing the main reception desk of Fourth Presbyterian Church and Chicago Light and acting as a central information focal point. The Receptionist is often the first point of contact with everyone who enters the building and, therefore, they are responsible for cultivating positive relations and conducting all duties in the spirit of the church's continuing mission.

Programs offer services to those who seek faith and guidance or are active in one of our many community programs or participate in one of our associated mission programs.



Schedule

This is a part-time position with shifts available throughout the week. Schedules may vary between 8:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., including some holidays. Regular Sunday availability is required.


Job Responsibilities

• Welcome and greet all guests of the church with kindness and enthusiasm.
• Operate phones to relay incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls. Will include, but is not limited to:
o Supplying general information regarding programs, services, and other church-related matters to callers and visitors.
o Communicating department needs with operations staff.
• Create staff badges and sign out temporary keys/badges to staff and volunteers.
• Maintain visitor registration
• Manage mail distribution and logging in packages
• Assist in the intake of clothing donations for the Social Services Center
• Be familiar with daily events happening on the campus.
• Maintain a tidy and pleasant-looking reception area.
• Assist security in maintaining a safe environment by communicating concerns and unacceptable behavior.
• Assist with mailings and weekly bulletins.
• Other duties as assigned or as needed.


Qualifications and Experience

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Previous receptionist/front desk experience, preferred.
• Outstanding communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and a Windows operating environment.
• Previous experience using a multi-line phone system.
• Comfortable using different forms of technology and terminology and/or the willingness to learn.
• Ability to maintain professionalism during difficult or stressful situations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to successfully relate to diverse individuals.
• Ability to prioritize situations and tasks.
• Organizational skills.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Exceptional attendance record including timeliness in reporting to work.
• Good problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply knowledge in new situations and exercise good judgment, especially during peak times.
• Comfort and willingness to work in a multi-cultural and faith-based environment.

• Must be able to participate in online virtual communications including email, video conferencing, and other online tools used to facilitate virtual office culture and work sharing.

• This role requires frequent sitting and standing.
• Requires ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 20 lbs.

Compensation

This is a part-time position with an hourly rate of $19.50 per hour.
