Today's Hymn
“Savior, like a Shepherd Lead Us”

You have promised to receive us,
poor and sinful though we be;
you have mercy to relieve us,
grace to cleanse, and power to free.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
early let us turn to you.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
early let us turn to you.

by Dorothy Ann Thrupp
Hymn 187, Glory to God
verse 3

Reflection

One of the things that I love about singing hymns is that in addition to singing beautiful music, I get to share the powerful message of the text.

The section of this verse that struck me most was “You have mercy to relieve us, grace to cleanse, and power to free.” I know that it is very easy to feel burdened and overwhelmed by all the things that are going on in our lives. What a comfort to know that God gives us grace and mercy.

As the next section of the verse states, “Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, early let us turn to you.” This hymn reminds us to turn to God and let God receive us.

Prayer
Gracious and merciful God, hold me in your loving care as I turn to you. Amen.
