Today's Hymn
“Ride On! Ride On in Majesty!”

Ride on! ride on in majesty!
Hark! all the tribes hosanna cry;
thy humble beast pursues its road
with palms and scattered garments strowed.
Ride on! ride on in majesty!
In lowly pomp ride on to die;
O Christ, thy triumphs now begin
o’er captive death and conquered sin.

by Henry Hart Milman
Hymn 198, Glory to God
verses 1–2

Reflection

“Ride on! ride on in majesty! In lowly pomp ride on to die.”

Jesus was cheered by an overflowing crowd. He seemed to relish the joy while also knowing that in a few short days, the crowd would turn on him and he would suffer incredible abuse. It didn’t stop him from savoring the celebration.

We’ve all experienced moments of joy while also internalizing that the days post-celebration will be filled with challenges. You toast a great quarter with colleagues while your forecasts project ominous market trends you can’t stop. You celebrate your son’s graduation while knowing next fall you feel sad when you see his empty bedroom. You are hopeful about a new treatment that will bring your loved one relief yet there is no cure for their disease. When faced with challenges, let us let us remember that Jesus sacrificed so that even in the darkest moments we are not alone. Jesus suffered so we can find salvation.

Prayer
Dear Lord, we are grateful for your love and grace. Help us extend your grace to our neighbors in need. Help us in moments of darkness see your light and love. Help us be salt and light to those in need. Amen.
