Today's Scripture
Psalm 93
The Lord is king, he is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed, he is girded with strength.
He has established the world; it shall never be moved;
your throne is established from of old;
you are from everlasting.
The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
the floods have lifted up their voice;
the floods lift up their roaring.
More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters,
more majestic than the waves of the sea,
majestic on high is the Lord!
Your decrees are very sure;
holiness befits your house,
O Lord, forevermore. (NRSV)
Reflection
What a powerful image! The psalmist says the Lord is “robed in majesty” and although “the seas have lifted up their pounding waves,” the Lord is “mightier than the thunder of the great waters.”
I appreciate the psalmist’s comfort in also reminding us that God’s “decrees are very sure; holiness befits your house, O Lord, forevermore.” When I read this psalm, I think about God’s awe-inspiring power and also God’s enormous love.
Prayer
Dear God, help me feel your strength and power. Help me also feel your holiness for endless days. Amen.
