Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8, 2016
Offered by Victoria G. Curtiss, Associate Pastor
On Mother’s Day, loving God, we ask you to bless mothers currently raising children at home, that they are strengthened and guided by your Spirit, and mothers whose children have grown up, that they may feel appreciated and comforted by their children.
We pray for single mothers, stepmothers, and foster mothers, and for mothers raising children in poverty and in places of violence, that they may find resources to protect and provide for their family.
We pray for birth mothers and adopted mothers and for those who wish they could be or could have been mothers.
We pray for healing for mothers estranged from their children and for children estranged from their mothers.
We pray you would comfort all mothers who have lost children and children who have lost their mothers.
We thank you for grandmothers and great-grandmothers and anyone who mothered a child as their own, who passed on a legacy of love.
We pray for all whose mothers have not been all that they needed or hoped and all who remember their mothers with love this day.
We thank you, gracious God, for loving us like a mother who will never forget us, who nurtures and embraces us all the days of our lives. Shape us to show your compassion to others. In the name of Jesus, who taught us to pray: Our Father . . .
